The Texas Bluebonnet Award reading program was established in 1979 by the Texas Library Association to encourage Texas children in grades 3-6 to read more books, explore a variety of current books, and identify their favorite books. Students are encouraged to read at least 5 books by
January 12, 2024 to be eligible to vote in the election for the Bluebonnet Award Winner.Summer Reading – Students can complete the Individual Tracking Chart to document a book that they read over the summer. The chart will be due by
August 31, 2023. Students will discuss their summer reading with Mrs. Young when they return to school.
Read 5 = Invitation to Donuts and Voting to select your favorite Bluebonnet book in the statewide contest!

There will be a Bluebonnet Tea at the end of the school year for:
3rd Graders who have read 10 books
4th Graders who have read 13 books
5th Graders who have read 15 books

Parents: I encourage you to preview these books by reading the books or by
watching the trailers at the Bluebonnet Program website.
Sora has wonderful audiobook versions to download that you could listen to as a family on those long summer road trips.
*The books have been carefully selected by a panel of Texas Librarians to be appropriate for elementary students. However, if you don’t want your child to
read one of the books please contact me and, if necessary, we will decide on a substitute title so that your student can still fully participate and qualify for the
awards. Students are not required to read the Bluebonnet books. It is an enrichment opportunity for those that want to participate.
