The Brenda Prothe Memorial Scholarship is established to honor the life, character and spirit of Brenda Prothe. Brenda was a true and loyal friend to all. She served in Humble ISD for 24 years at various campuses throughout the district. Her last eight years were spent in the Athletic Office, where she took care of more than 300 coaches and trainers. She touched many lives along the way with her thoughtfulness, kindness and compassion. She never met a stranger and her smile and sense of humor were contagious. Brenda was a true example of putting others before yourself and doing unto others as you would have them do unto you. Heaven gained a special angel on February 3, 2020 when God welcomed her home after a two and a half year bout with cancer. Brenda did not give up without a battle. She taught us lessons of toughness, tenacity, and positivity. She showed us how to fight and never give up, no matter the size of our opponent. Brenda lived her life with the motto of “attitude is everything” and this is how she approached every day, with a positive attitude, unparalleled courage and continual selflessness.
To honor Brenda’s memory, the Brenda Prothe Memorial Scholarship will award $1,000 annually to two seniors chosen from among the Humble ISD high schools. The award is non-renewable, payable in one lump sum to the college or university of the recipient’s choice, and will be presented by the Prothe family.
Last week we awarded four $1000 Brenda Prothe scholarships to deserving Humble ISD students. Brenda’s husband, two daughters, son, two sisters & her mom all served on the selection committee.Christian Holley Scholarship
Christian Holley was a 2008 graduate of Kingwood High School and member of the varsity swim team. He was a vibrant, fun-loving young man who never met a stranger, leaving a piece of himself in the hearts of all he met. Christian valiantly fought terminal brain cancer with a smile and courage everyday, eventually entering heaven in November of 2011 at 21 years of age.
This scholarship was established in his name in the spring of 2012. Service, loyalty, achievement, success and standards are at the heart of the CLASS award. Since 2012, twenty-two scholarships of one thousand dollars each have been awarded to students that embody many of the qualities that defined Christian’s character and life.
The Humble ISD Athletic Department awarded the Christian Holley CLASS award to several well deserving student athletes last week.
