Dual Credit Summer Academy 2020 will be online
Humble ISD offers a Dual Credit Summer Academy in partnership with Lone Star College to allow students the opportunity to earn high school and college credit in the summer with free tuition. Students receive credit on their transcripts if they earn a C or higher in a course.
This year, the Dual Credit Summer Academy will be online. Originally, it was planned to be held at Atascocita High School but has now been converted to an online format. Course registration will be managed by Lone Star College-Kingwood. The courses will be taught by Lone Star College-Kingwood faculty.
Dates: June 8 to July 12, 2020
Courses Available: A variety of core classes are available including DRAM 1310, ECON 2301, GOVT 2305, HUMA 1302, PSYC 2301, and SPCH 1315.
Instructional Platform: Online
Costs: Tuition is waived. Fees and textbook costs for summer courses must be paid in full to Lone Star College by the student. Scholarships previously awarded to students will still apply.
Registration: Registration is now open! Students should first contact their school counselor to process the Exceptional Admission form needed to register (must meet eligibility via ACT, SAT, PSAT/NMSQT or TSI). Then go to http://www.lonestar.edu/
dualcredit to register.
Already Registered?: Students who were already registered for the academy should contact their counselor by Monday, May 4, to indicate whether they plan to take the classes. Current registrations will roll-over. If students do not want to continue in the online format, they should notify their counselor and their registration will be canceled and fees refunded, if applicable.
TSI Testing: Lone Star College has a test score requirement for new students. Any student who has not yet met college-ready testing requirements may take the TSI test online from home. To test from home, the student must have access to a computer with a camera for live proctoring services. High school counselors can assist parents in getting students set up to take the TSI test if needed.
Transcripts: At the conclusion of a course after grades are posted, students will need to send their Lone Star College-Kingwood transcript to their high school registrar so that grades can be added to their high school transcript.
