Humble Elementary Robotics Open
What is HERO? HERO is an after-school robotics program for 5th graders using LEGO MINDSTORM. Students construct a robot using LEGOS and then program their “Bot” to perform various tasks using a computer processing program. We will meet once a week after school to practice constructing, programming, and practicing specific missions. The main goal of the HERO program is to teach our students to think critically, solve problems independently, and work with others.
The HERO Challenge We will attend a HERO Challenge on Saturday, Feb. 29th at Westlake Middle School. The competition will consist of a series of programmed missions that will require teams to accomplish tasks with their robot within a time limit. This year our theme will be the Olympics!
Who May Participate? HERO is only open to 5th Grade students at ASE. To be eligible, students must fill out an application and be available after school on Wednesdays, as well as be available on the competition date. A limited number of students will be chosen based on a random selection, their application, and teacher feedback.
When is HERO? Applications for HERO will be available on Wednesday, September 25th and will be due on Wednesday, October 2nd. The first meeting will be on Wednesday, October 30th and we will meet every Wednesday after school from 3:30 - 4:30 PM until the competition date in February.
