Señora Micaela Flores de Morales
This school year will mark my 11th year teaching all levels of Spanish. I graduated with a Bachelors of Arts from Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi and with a Masters of Arts from Texas A&M University - Kingsville. For both degrees I majored in Spanish Language and Literature. I was a nursing major with a minor in Spanish first but when I took my first Spanish culture class I was in love and changed my degree plan within the week.
As I worked on my graduate degree I worked as a substitute teacher and that is where I learned that high school was for me. I started my teaching career in Goose Creek CISD and have been here at the Atascocita High School since 2015. I have taught Spanish 1, 2, 3, 4 and dual credit Spanish 2311 and this year I will be teaching Spanish 2, Spanish 1 & 2 Native Speakers, and Spanish 3 & 4 AP for Native Speakers.
I grew up in rural South Texas specifically the Corpus Christi area where small town life consisted of football games, the livestock show, and BBQ's. I was lucky enough to have family in all walks of life that I have been able to experience many things both positive and negative. My parents always instilled the sense of family in us so we grew up with cousins and in a very loud house! I was born here in Houston but my family moved a lot until we settled in a little ranch town about an hour away from Corpus Christi when I was 6. I grew up loving my Mexican culture and was excited to learn the language and culture of all the Spanish Speaking countries while in college. I am thankful that I get to share that love with my students.
I have been married for 13 years to my husband John and we have 2 amazing boys - Ethan my 11 year old and Jacob my 7 year old. My husband is from Colombia and my family is from Mexico which makes an amazing combination in my classroom for learning new vocabulary and learing about the many dialects/accents that exist in the Spanish speaking world. I enjoy telling my students about my travels to other countries and inspiring them to visit new places and learn as much as they can about that new place.
I would like to encourage you to communicate with me as often as you need to -- I always respond to both email and phone calls so please do not hesitate to contact me with any concerns or questions. I look forward to meeting you all this year!!
