The Humble ISD is committed to an educational program which recognizes the unique value, needs, and talents of the individual student. A program for academically excellent students is an integral part of this commitment. The G/T program in Humble ISD exists for the students who are capable and ready to learn at the levels of depth and complexity necessary to master the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for their appropriate grade levels. Its guiding characteristic is the provision of differentiated and independent studies which meet both cognitive and affective needs. The ultimate goal of the program is to provide experiences whereby the students will be challenged academically, socially, and emotionally to achieve their greatest potential to manage change and to have a sense of responsibility for self, school, community, and society.

All campuses in Humble ISD provide screening, identification, and services for Gifted and Talented students. In order for a student to be identified as Gifted and Talented (GT) in Humble ISD, data from several quantitative and qualitative criteria are collected over a four-week period to identify students who exhibit potential and/or perform at levels significantly beyond the norm in areas of superior cognitive ability and/or specific academic achievement.
Quantitative criteria include the following: Verbal, Quantitative, and Non-verbal reasoning and specific academic achievement assessments. Qualitative criteria include the following: a parent survey, a teacher survey and/or observations, and a portfolio of student work, if applicable. Students may be identified as GT in the four core content areas.
The information is reviewed by the Selection Committee and students are recommended based on the preponderance of the evidence.
This identification process is in accordance with the Texas State Plan for the Education of Gifted/Talented Students. All documents used for assessment/identification will be available in English and Spanish.
GT services include instruction by a teacher with the appropriate GT Foundational training within a cluster grouping model (small group of identified GT students within the general education classroom) in grades K-5. This allows for opportunities for curricular tasks that include greater depth, complexity, and pacing while working independently and with other GT students as well as students not identified. Students at the secondary level (grades 6-12) are cluster and/or homogeneously grouped in core content subjects.
These services are in accordance with the Texas State Plan for the Education of Gifted/Talented Students.
Only students enrolled in an Humble ISD school may be referred/screened for GT services.
Students continuously enrolled in Humble ISD may be referred/screened only once each calendar year.
Test scores from private sources, such as psychologists or learning centers, will not be automatically accepted for GT placement. Data from such testing may be used to aid the Building Selection Committee in making an informed decision regarding placement.
Transferring within Humble ISD
If an Humble ISD GT-identified student transfers from one campus to another, the student’s area(s) for GT identification will automatically follow the student.
Returning to Humble ISD after leaving the district
If an Humble ISD GT-identified student leaves the district and then returns to the district, GT status will be reviewed by the Building Selection Committee. Additional documentation may be required.
Enrolling in Humble ISD from out-of-district
Placement in the Humble ISD GT program is not automatic for students identified as gifted outside of Humble ISD. Appropriate documentation of previous placement from the sending district must accompany the incoming student. Without the appropriate documentation, the student’s placement may be reviewed by the Building Selection Committee.
Humble ISD reserves the right to use its own standard procedures and measurements if there is any question regarding appropriate placement. This screening may occur outside the regular assessment window and the Building Selection Committee shall make its determination within 30 days of the student’s enrollment.
