Humble ISD researching new recycling options for schools
WCA Waste Corporation is in the process of removing its recycling containers from Humble ISD campuses after informing the district that it is no longer servicing the containers free of charge due to COVID-19 precautions.

Destry Balch named Humble ISD Director of Fine Arts
Humble ISD has selected Destry Balch to be Director of Fine Arts beginning with the 2020-2021 school year. Mr. Balch comes to the districtwide role from Kingwood High School, where he served as KHS Director of Bands for 16 years.

2019-2020 Report Cards available in Home Access Center (HAC) until June 29
Final report cards are available in HAC and will viewable through Monday, June 29. After June 29, 2019-2020 information is no longer viewable in HAC because the system has rolled over to the new school year.

Humble ISD welcomes Paul Edwards as the founding principal of Elementary School #30
Paul Edwards is returning to Humble ISD as the founding principal of Elementary School #30, a new school that will open in August 2021. The school is being built in the Fall Creek neighborhood and is funded by Bond 2018.

Kingwood Park Journalism Program has award-winning year
The journalism program at Kingwood Park High School reached new heights this year. Students won four of the state’s top journalism awards from the UIL’s Interscholastic League Press Conference. Throughout the year, they won a combined 111 state and national honors in writing and photography.

Retired Humble ISD Superintendent Dr. Guy M. Sconzo remembered as inspiring leader
Dr. Guy M. Sconzo, who served as Humble ISD Superintendent of Schools from 2001 to 2016, passed away while surrounded by beloved family on Tuesday, April 21, following a battle with cancer.

Eagle Springs Elementary Teacher Darcy Petzold Named District and Elementary Teacher of the Year. Humble Middle School Teacher Lynsey Thrower Named Secondary Teacher of the Year.
Darcy Petzold, second-grade teacher at Eagle Springs Elementary, is the Humble Independent School District and Elementary Teacher of the Year. Petzold received a $5,000 prize, sponsored by Robbins Chevrolet. Thrower, a sixth-grade social studies teacher at Humble Middle School, is the Secondary Teacher of the Year. Thrower received a $2,500 prize, sponsored by Gulf Coast Educators Federal Credit Union. Both teachers were surprised at their homes on April 20.

April 17 Update: Online Learning Continues for 2019-2020
Governor Greg Abbott’s executive order issued today will keep classrooms closed to students throughout Texas for the remainder of the school year as part of a larger plan to protect public health. Humble ISD schools will continue to provide online learning for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.

Humble ISD is receiving $25 million to help protect Kingwood High School from future flooding. FEMA has approved a flood mitigation application submitted by the district.

Retention stipend approved for 2,900 more Humble ISD employees
Approximately 2,900 more Humble ISD employees will receive a retention stipend payment in December and again in May under a plan approved by the Board of Trustees on November 12 geared toward retaining the best employees for Humble ISD students.

Nine Humble ISD high school technology students participated in hands-on sessions with the technology team at Kingwood-based Insperity, a leading provider of human resources and business performance solutions. The sessions, which took place on Oct. 8-9 during the Humble ISD Fall Break, provided students with a real-world technology experience.

Humble Middle School students team up with Kids’ Meals to provide meals to children in need
Students at Humble Middle School spent part of their October Break giving back to help others. Seventh and eighth grade girls visited Kids’ Meals on the first part of the October Break to prepare over 1,600 meals for preschool-aged children in need.

Stipend: Dec. 13 and May 15
As part of the 2019-2020 Budget, the Board of Trustees approved a stipend incentive that will be issued to teachers, librarians, nurses and counselors as recognized by House Bill 3. The $1,400 stipend incentive will be paid in two separate $700 installments (Dec 13th paycheck and May 15th paycheck) and will be proportionate to the employees’ full time/part time work schedule.
