• Hello!  I'm Julie Gallow, Humble Elementary's Visual Art Teacher.  I have been teaching here for 10 years, as well as Foster Elementary for the last 6, before that I taught for 4 years at North Belt Elementary.  I am here for 2 nine week periods in the school year, this year it is for the second nine weeks and the fourth nine weeks.  While I am here, we pack a lot of creativity into half of the school year!  We start out with drawing and practicing our art skills by working with pencils, crayons, and markers. We quickly move into painting, because neither the students or I can wait to start painting!  We only use non-toxic paint that can be washed out of clothing.  It may take a little elbow grease to get the stain out before you put it in the wash, and spray it with a stain remover, but it will come out.  We have aprons in the art room that we wear, but if there's a way to get stuff on their clothes, kids will find it!  It's more important that they have these sensory, tactile, joyful experiences creating art than any mess they create.  After painting, we move into collage, sculpture, and sometimes jewelry making and weaving.  We pack a whole lot of art making fun into 18 weeks!  Please look at my Art Room Wish List page if you would like to donate to the art program.  I am so grateful to be your children's art teacher, each and every one of our children are so special in their own unique way!  Oh, and please follow me on Twitter @HE_ArtRoom to see the latest creative things we are doing in the art room!
