Dear 8th Grade Parents,

In the interest of safeguarding the health and well-being of students and instructors, Humble ISD will not be hosting a face-to-face  Dual Credit Summer Academy (DCSA), instead these classes will be converted to online courses for students who wish to sign-up and/or continue with the academy.  Course registrations and implementation will be managed by Lone Star College-Kingwood. The class sections will continue to be dual credit specific sections just as they were before the change. The only difference is that the classes are now online and will be managed by Lone Star College-Kingwood.

    Summer Session 1: June 8 - July 12, 2020

Courses Available: A variety of core classes will be available including DRAM 1310, ECON 2301, GOVT 2305, HUMA 1302, PSYC 2301, SPCH 1315

Instructional Platform - All classes will be taught online.

Expenses - Tuition is waived; fees and textbook costs for summer courses must be paid in full to Lone Star College by the student (scholarships previously awarded to students will still apply).

Registration - Registration for summer dual credit courses is open now (go to http://www.lonestar.edu/dualcredit).  Students should first contact his or her school counselor to process the Exceptional Admission form needed to register (must meet eligibility via ACT, SAT, PSAT/NMSQT or TSI).

Students who were already registered for the face-to-face academy, should contact their counselor and let him or her know if they want to continue in the new format by MAY 4th.  Current registrations will roll-over for those previously registered for DCSA who want to participate in the online DCSA.

If a student does not want to continue in the new format, they should notify their counselor and their registration will be canceled (fees will be refunded, if applicable).

TSI Testing - Any student interested in taking dual credit classes this summer or next school year who has not yet met college-ready testing requirements, may take the TSI online from home Lone Star College. To test from home, the student must have access to a computer with a camera for live proctoring services.

Students who wish to test should do the following:

    1. Log in to the mylonestar account and complete the pre-assessment activity.
    2. The student should then email KC-DualCredit@lonestar.edu from his or her myLonestar STUDENT email account to get a testing referral and instructions. Again, the student MUST send this message from the student’s myLonestar student email account.
    3. LSC will reply with a testing referral and copy the Testing Center when approved.
    4. The TSI is still free for dual credit students on the first attempt, but there is a $20 proctoring fee for the live online testing.  The student will pay the $20 proctoring fee to the LSC Testing Center.
    5. The LSC Testing Center will then issue a voucher to the student along with instructions on how to proceed with testing.

Transcripts - At the conclusion of a course, once grades are posted, students are responsible for getting their LSC transcript to the registrar at their high school campus to have grades added to their high school transcript.

Again, all students wishing to enroll, remain or withdraw from the DCSA will need to confirm participation status with their counselor by Monday, May 4, 2020.
