Students enrolled in a Texas public high school must take and pass certain required courses and the end-of-course exams (EOCs) for those courses. The assessments are based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, the state curriculum standards. Students must pass five STAAR end-of-course tests to graduate from a Texas public high school.

Each school year there are 3 STAAR EOC testing windows:
December retesting - opportunity to retake EOCs not previously passed *DECEMBER 10-13, 2019*
April/May- End of Course exams administered for students who are enrolled in eligible courses during the current school year
June retesting - opportunity to retake EOCs not previously passed
