Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS)

  • Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) is a retirement pension plan.  District employees that work half-time or more in regularly scheduled positions are automatically enrolled in TRS.  Humble ISD is required to withhold and submit your monthly member contribution (8% of your eligible salary on a pre-tax basis) to TRS. 

    TRS is a defined benefit plan which means your monthly benefit during retirement is “defined” by a formula; it is not limited to the amount of your accumulated contributions in your TRS member account. The basic formula, which varies slightly for different member tiers, is:

    Years of Service x 2.3% x Average 3/5 highest salary
