    Unable to go to college after graduating from high school, Dorothy Harryman waited until her children were grown then went off to the University of Houston. She substitute taught for a while before being hired as a classroom teacher.1

    She was recognized by the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association as the TEPSA Principal of the Year for the State of Texas for 1982.  She was also recognized by the South Central Association of Principals, a seven state area, for being their 198-19182 Outstanding Administrator of the year.
