Our learning has changed as we, a community, adapt to the schedules we are provided. We CAN do this!
In our online and/or on campus classroom, reading will include a read aloud text or shared text and a focused mini-lesson for the TEKS comprehension skill of the day. During reader's workshop students are going to be reading independently, working on google classroom tasks, or in a guided reading lesson group with a teacher. Our focus is on developing our listening, reading, speaking, and writing skills. Genre study includes fiction, poetry, drama, informational, argumentative and multi-media modal. These lessons are based on the newly released 5th grade reading and language TEKS.
Google Classroom will be the 5th grade learning platform - where we get our assignments and lessons to review. Embedded in our learning will be lessons on how to use Google Classroom for finding assignments, submitting assignments and viewing grades for these assignments. Class Dojo, Google Classroom and e-mail will be used for a communication tool between school and home.
I am a graduate of Iowa State University with a master's degree in reading from Viterbo University. This is my 36th year of teaching students. And I continue to be excited for the learning I experience with each new group of students
I have lived in Houston, Texas, for five years and love the state of Texas. The humidity may be uncomfortable at times, but there is no snow and below zero temperatures like my homestate of Iowa! My hometown is Winterset, Iowa, the covered bridge capital of Iowa and John Wayne's birthplace. AND in our household, we are dedicated fans of the Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals.
