Social & Emotional Learning
Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. Affective Education promotes social and emotional wellness for the students and staff of Humble ISD. We work to teach the Great 8 Skills for Daily Life, which are Optimistic Thinking, Self-Management, Relationship Skills, Goal-Directed Behavior, Decision Making, Personal Responsibility, Self-Awareness and Social-Awareness. Humble ISD utilizes the Making Connections classroom management model, Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS), DESSA, and the Why Try program in order to foster a safe environment in which all students can learn. By providing professional development opportunities for staff, and also workshops for parents; we partner with our families and community in building a strong generation of students.
