Humble ISD counselors teach The Great 8: Skills for Daily Life using the Why Try program as the foundation of the guidance curriculum. I will conduct Classroom Guidance Lessons using our Why Try curriculum and the "Great 8 Skills" generated from the book How Children Succeed by Paul Tough.
During the 2019-2020 school year, students will explore the following Great 8 Skills:
Optimistic Thinking, Self-Management, Relationship Skills, and Goal Directed Behavior.
Optimistic Thinking- A persons's attitude of confidence, hopefulness, and positive attitude.
Self- Management- A person's success in controlling his/her emotions and behaviors, especially in new and challenging situations.
Relationship Skills- A person's skill at promoting and maintaining positive connections with others.
Goal-Directed Behavior- A person's initiation of, and persistence in completing difficult tasks.
During the 2020-2021 school year, we will focus on:
- Decision Making
- Personal Responsibility
- Social –Awareness
I will be coming into the classroom each 9 weeks to get to know your children and to promote our SOAR (safe, organized, accountable, and respectful) moto here at ESE!
