    Discipline

Class management will be handled in an appropriate, fair, and positive manner. Disciplinary action is on an individual basis and will be communicated to the parent/guardian via email, phone, or letter.  Discipline points will be given when students break one of the classroom rules which can affect a student's grade.  A review of the discipline policy is below:

First infraction: Student writes his/her name in the "Music Behavior Chart" documenting his/her inappropriate choice according to class rules.
Second infraction: Student writes his/her name in the "Music Behavior Chart" and parent is notified.
Third infraction: Student writes his/her name in the "Music Behavior Chart", parent contact made, and student will complete music worksheets.

Parents will be notified via phone or email after the 3rd infraction. Administration will also be notified

    Nurse Notes

Because there will be numerous activities that require moving, all students are expected to participate unless there is written notification of a medical condition, injury, or other health-related issue that will limit or restrict the student's ability to participate.  Written notification should be from the parent/guardians, school nurse, or family physician.

    Grading

Students will receive grades for music.  Grading will be based on numerous criteria and numerous assessments regarding topics in class.  Demonstration of learned skills, participation, attitude, and behavior will determine the grades for students in music.  Below is a review of the grading policy:

E/4 = Students earn an E or 4 when they display a mastery performance of the learned skills and activities and have written their name in the "Music Behavior Chart" 1 time or less.

S/3 = Students earn an S or 3 when they display the required performance of the learned skills and activities and have written their name in the "Music Behavior Chart" 2-3 time or less.

S/2 = Students earn an S or 2 when they display a developing performance of the skills and activities and have have written their name in the "Music Behavior Chart" 2-3 times.

N/1 = Students earn an N or 1 when they display significant struggles performing the skills and activities and have have written their name in the "Music Behavior Chart" 4-5 times.

U/0 = Students earn a U or 0 when they refuse to perform the skills and activities, and have have written their name in the "Music Behavior Chart" more than 5 times.

Participation = A portion of each child's grade is determined on their desire to participate in a solo atmosphere (singing by themselves) as well as their participation in group activities, games, songs, etc. Please note the following grading scale:

4 = The student always volunteers and always participates in group activities.
3 = The student occasionally volunteers and regularly participates in group activities.
2 = The student rarely volunteers and hesitates participating in several group activities.
1 = The student never volunteers and rarely participate in group activities.
0 = The student never volunteers and regularly refuses to participate in group activities.

Because music is a skill-based class, participation is vital. Please encourage your student to participate in each and every activity to the very best of their abilities. That is the only way to get a proper assessment of their true skills and abilities.
