    Syllabus

Welcome to the parents and guardians of my 9th grade, English I course, for the 2022-2023 school year! I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. I am Ms. Gillespie. I graduated from The Mississippi University for Women with Early Childhood Development and Elementary Education (K-6) with 7-12 English Language Arts and Social Studies endorsements.

As an aspiring educator, I strongly believe that teaching is more than presenting a classroom lecture, reading assignments, and worksheets; it is building relationships, shaping academic conversations, and learning from our misconceptions or mistakes. Students must be engaged in their learning if they are to take ownership. Aspiring to meet the needs of all students, my philosophy of education is built on the quote of Confucius, “Tell me and I will forget, show me and I may remember; involve me and I will understand.” Although school is visualized as a place of learning; it is so much more than that. Many students come to school lacking the foundation on which they can learn; therefore, it is my desire to show my students that I care for them, love them, support them, and believe in them.

I am looking forward to meeting and communicating with you and your child(ren). Furthermore, rest-assure that your support will help both the child(ren) and me persevere and endeavor this journey.  It’s an honor to be working with your child (ren). I am thrilled to see your child(ren) conquer and master another milestone in life. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out!

    Sincerely,

    Hope Gillespie
