Welcome, Wildcats to the 2019-2020 School Year! I am Dr. Schlafly and I teach English I and Strategic Writing here at HHS.

For those of you in my English I classes, I am looking forward to our reading our class novels over the course of this school year. Every student will need a copy of these novels as we work towards increased literacy in the classroom. Novels can be found at Half Price Books, Amazon or Barnes & Noble.

      English I Level Required Novels:

The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian- By: Sherman Alexie

The Parable of the Sower- By: Octavia Butler

These novels will be used to teach multicultural themes as we work towards gaining understanding of authors purpose, figurative langauge and writing techniques. I think you will enjoy our exploring them together!

While no novels are required for Strategic Writing, please be sure to take note of the required supplies listed on the syllabus to ensure your success in my classroom.

    • We are a mostly "green" classroom, so much of our work will be done digitally. Students and parents please add yourselves to Google Classroom. This is where all assignments will be housed, as well as assignments for those that are absent found! Please ensure you not only sign up for your subject, but that you sign up for the specific block you have that class.

The first assignment is already posted!
