WELCOME!!!!!!
I am extremely excited to have your child in my 6th grade World Cultures or 7th grade AVID class. In World Cultures, we will be studying people and places of the world. We will examine governments, religions, holidays, food, art, music clothing and much more all the way from Australia to Zambia, and every country in between. World Cultures is an eye-opening experience about the cultural diversity that exists in the world today. This class aligns neatly with Ross Sterling's mission to create "global citizens." As an MYP campus, this class is truly an opportunity for the students to see and understand how everything and everyone on our planet are connected. This year, my 6th grade World Cultures students and myself will be in the "Orange Crew" house. Please see the "Orange Crew" house webpage (link below) for more details and a house testing/project calendar.

As always, my AVID class will continue to be an academic support system for my students as rigor continuously increases throughout the school. In AVID, there will be 5 main areas of focus: 1) Colleges/Careers, 2) Guest Speakers, 3) Public Speaking, 4) Collaboration and Tutorials, and 5) Cornell Notes/Writing. This year we will  also be working diligently to keep organized binders and to take Cornell notes in all core classes. Your student will be expected to keep an  AVID binder, which will be graded on a weekly basis.  This year the college tutors will be coming to school on Mondays and Wednesdays during class for tutorials. We are going to work hard to prepare our students so they can continue to be  successful in high school, and then on to college. I truly consider myself the luckiest teacher in the school, to be part of such an amazing program and surrounded by these truly awesome students.

I graduated from Huntsville High school, and then went on to get my Bachelors degree at Southwestern University in Georgetown in Political Science and German. I have been teaching at Ross Sterling since 2008, and I absolutely love my job.
