MHMRA Billboard Contest Winner Announced CONGRATULATIONS to M YKAL GRIMES on winning the MHMRA Billboard Art Contest!!! Last Spring, Mrs. Longhofer's Fourth Grade Class collaborated with Ms. Ransdell and Ms. Hopkins, and worked on a very special art project for the Mental Health and Mental Retardation Authority of Houston's Billboard Art Contest. Mrs. Hopkin's , Special Ed. Team Leader, wrote a beautiful poem about building bridges to help students with special needs. This poem helped students understand the needs of children with disabilities and how students of all abilities need to come together to help each other. The teachers and students were very touched by Mrs. Hopkins' meaningful poem. Mykal's artwork beautifully illustrated the poem and is entitled, "Someone Will Always Be There When You Fall" Her artwork was chosen as the 2009-10 Billboard winner and will be seen on various billboards around Houston this year. You can also see Mykal's artwork and read Mrs. Hopkins' poem in a display in our PFE cafeteria. Congratulations to you , Mykal! We are VERY Panther Proud of you! Also, a very BIG THANK YOU to Mrs. Longhofer, Mrs. Hopkins and the last year's fourth grade student participants. |
Education starts with a safe ride to school
Safety is always a transportation issue and focus. How does Humble ISD promote transportation safety? Our constant concern is the safety of each and every student. Consistent application of bus stop assignments help our drivers know that students are loading and unloading and where they are supposed to be. Assigned seating is one of many ways drivers monitor the safety of students. All Humble ISD drivers received training to become " First Observers. " This Department of Homeland Security program emphasized driver awareness of vehicles and individuals to assist in stopping terrorist or other criminal activity. Humble ISD is one of the first school districts in the state to have completed this training. What can parents do to help? Safety can never be taken for granted. There is no safer means for a child to be delivered to school than on a school bus. There is no safer bus stop than one where a parent or other adult offers supervision for the children in a neighborhood. Parents and students can be proactive about safety by taking time to learn who other families with children are in their community. Designate a safe house near the bus stop. When possible, students should walk together to the bus stop and home. Try to arrive at the bus stop no more than 10 minutes before the scheduled pick up time. What is the usual walking distance for a student who rides a bus? Eligible bus riders are collected from over 3,000 neighborhood bus stops located throughout the 93 square mile Humble ISD. The maximum walk to stop distance is 440 yards (1/4 mile) for elementary students and 880 yards (1/2 mile) for secondary students. Some exceptions do occur. This usually is related to policies prohibiting bus service on private property or where buses cannot maneuver safely. Why is bus service only provided for those who live two miles or more from school? The State of Texas does not reimburse school districts for service inside the two mile limit. Humble ISD provides bus service within the two mile limit only if a hazardous condition exists as defined in its Board Policy, and in some special education cases.
How many students in Humble ISD are bused to school? The Humble Independent School District Transportation Department transports more than 12,000 students a day to and from school and to many extra activities. The school district ' s fleet includes about 170 buses.

Late Work Policy at PFE Pine Forest Elementary affirms its stand on academic emphasis in its grading policy. Assignments and tests must be completed and turned in on the assigned date in order to receive full credit. Any assignment not submitted upon the request of the teacher will be considered late work. Ten (10) points shall be deducted from the grade earned for each day the assignment is late. A grade of 50 is the lowest grade that will be recorded if the completed assignment is turned in within five (5) days. A grade of zero (0) will be recorded if the completed assignment has not been turned in by the end of the fifth day.

http://www.dshs.state.tx.us/immunize/docs/school/6-14eng.pdf Immunization requirement changes made for school year 2009-2010 by the State of Texas. This year's changes will effect Kindergarten entries and 7th grade entries. The state's future plan will slowly add shot requirements, a few grade levels at a time. This will help to not over burden our health care system and the availability of serum. Please note there are new requirements this next school year for Kinder and 7th grade! |
For the safety of our students, please do not drop children off in the Faculty Parking Lot. Please drop students off at Pine Cup entrance by the curb at the flagpole and exit through the outside bus lane. The parking lot will be closed to thru traffic at arrival and dismissal time. Please avoid pulling into the bus loading/unloading zone by the cafeteria doors. Car riders may also be dropped off in the circle drive in the front of the building. Vehicles should form two lanes in the front circle driveway with third, fourth, and fifth graders in the outside lane. Kindergarten, first, and second graders at the curb closest to the building, This procedure will help to reduce traffic back up on West Lake Houston Parkway and to expedite traffic flow. Please be cautious of students by providing them the right of way when crossing lanes. Students should never be dropped off or picked up at the street on West Lake Houston Parkway or Pine Cup. |
Attention Parents:
Please remember that we can not accept emails as a change for dismissal transportation. We only will accept a written note from a parent. This is district policy and a safety issue. |
Dismissal Times: 1:50 Kindergarten 3:10 Walkers /Bikers 3:15 Bus Riders/Day Care Riders/ Life Skills 3:20 Car Riders /Car Pool Riders Written requests for early pickup and/or changes in dismissal procedure must be provided to the teacher at the beginning of the day. A student must bring a written, signed note if there is change in dismissal plans. Faxed notes and emails are not accepted. Note should be given to teacher upon arrival to class. Dismissal will be at the same time and location every day rain, shine, sleet, or snow. Your promptness in picking up your child is very important.
