The students produced a cave drawing with symbols and icons. The students wrote out the letters of our current English alphabet and then create a new symbol for each letter. On the Rock Art Project the students were to use only symbols and a coded alphabet to express themselves.

This project helped them to understand how difficult it was for early humans to communicate. The students also wrote essays about why they chose their symbols. They also presented their projects to the class.

They did a super job! The first class project of the year was a success.

This is a great project for early in the school year because everyone gets to know each other a lot better. It is amazing to find out what it is that the students are into and what they devote their time to doing. Everything from swimming to shopping; church to video games; and everything else in between.  It was inspirational to see what they came up with and the presentations taught everyone a lot about what it takes to succeed in life.

After the projects were turned in, Mr. Duez put the best 50 up on the wall with a sticky attached to each one. Then the students walked through and selected the ones they liked the best. The "Gallery Walk" vote notched these in the top 20. Mr. Duez has posted them to his closet door in room 2307. Hopefully all the parents will have a chance to come by and check them out during Open House.
