The Eagle award given out to one member of each class period. The student will be given the award by Mr. Duez after a discussion/nomination of deserving students in class. This award is for academic excellence. The student who scores highly on tests and quizes, contributes to classroom discussion and shows leadership in the classroom is a candidate for the award. After winning the award, the student can take "Eddie the Eagle" a wooden eagle statue and place it on their desk until the next award is given.

[additional info: Mr. Duez has given the Eagle Award out since 2000. It was purchased in an Indian gift shop in downtown Houston. The eagle is made of solid wood and is an Indian carving. Originally it was meant to be a trophy that would go out to one of the guys on Mr. Duez's tech support team at Dynegy where he worked for 4 years. When Mr. Duez came back to teach at Humble High the Eagle came with him. It is ironic that Eddie the Eagle is now at home at AHS. This eagle really has found his nest!]

The Pigeon award goes to one student in each class that has conducted themselves with great citizenship and teamwork. They have to have a great attitude, personality and spirit. The award is named T.E.D. in honor of my father - Terry Edward Duez. He passed away this year. My father's hobby was raising pigeons. You can see his website here: Parlor Roller Pigeons. After he passed away the pigeons were auctioned off for $11,000. This award is named for him because of the way he conducted his life. He was a great high school basketball coach in Pennsylvania. He was friends with nearly everyone he ever met. I always have said about my Dad that "he never met a person that wasn't good enough to be his friend." The person that wins this award will have to show that kind of spirit. The person that wins the T.E.D. Pigeon award will be able to place a pigeon trophy on their desk to signify that they have won the award.
