New Internet Filter

Humble ISD is implementing a new Internet filter called 8e6.  This new filter will help us meet all state and federal requirements, and also manage our network resources and stay within our bandwidth allocation.  End users will notice some changes in Internet use due to this new filter.

Some sites that you have used in the past may be blocked now by 8e6.  This could be because the new filter uses different criteria to block sites or because some issue like a virus or hacking has been detected on that site.  You need to check all sites you plan to use for instruction before the day of the project to find out if they are still available.

We encourage all teachers to use the Instructional Technology website as a portal for Internet resources.  You can find sites for all subject areas by going to http://www.humbleisd.net/techresources  and clicking on the SuperSites link for either Elementary or Secondary.  All the links on the IT website are tested and unblocked so you will not have to worry about the filter.  Links are continuously added to this site, so check back often.  If you know of an unblocked site that is valuable for instruction but is not listed on the IT website, please let us know by completing the form at http://www.humbleisd.net/sitesubmit  and we will review it, add it to the list, and make sure it stays unblocked.

If there is a resource that you need that is blocked by the filter and you cannot find something comparable on the IT website, you can request to have that site unblocked.  You will need to complete a request form at http://www.humbleisd.net/unblock  .  This form will be reviewed by the Change Review Committee which meets once a week, so please plan ahead.

We hope the links on the IT website will help you find the instructional resources you need while 8e6 helps provide Internet safety for our students.
