College Days |
 |
A |
Beginning their junior year, students are allotted three (3) college days to be used at their discretion. College days may be used during students’ junior year or through the end of the 5th six weeks grading period of their senior year. After that point, students must get approval from their assistant principal prior to taking a college day.
Students must also get permission from their assistant principal if they would like to visit the same college more than one time.
For all college days, written documentation from the college noting the date attended must be provided to the school. |

Exemption Policy |
 |
A |
Secondary Schools
2007-2008
1. A student must have a grade average of 80 or above in the course for which he/she is seeking a final exam exemption.
2. A student must have no more than 5 absences in the course for which he/she is seeking a final exam exemption. Absences are counted up to the day the exam is administered. School-related absences do not count for purposes of this rule.
3. An exemption from a final exam is not granted if during the semester the student is sent to Saturday class more than once, serves any time at the alternative school, or receives any suspension or expulsion.
4. Any student meeting these criteria may earn exemptions from no more than two final exams in a semester. Students may not be exempt from a final in the same courses for consecutive semesters in the same school year.
5. Students who register after the fifth day of a semester are not eligible for final exam exemptions. Transfer students have the responsibility to provide attendance and disciplinary information from the previous school to be considered for exemptions.
6. Second semester graduating seniors are eligible for exemption from all final exams if all eligibility criteria are satisfied.
7. Any student who qualifies for an exemption has the option to take the final exam. However, the grade received on the exam will be computed in the final semester average. The final exam is weighted at 20% of the semester grade. The numerical average for the three six-week periods will be the semester grade if the student is exempt and does not take a final.
8. A student enrolled in dual-credit courses with Kingwood College may exempt those classes based on the above-mentioned guidelines. |

Tardy Policy |
 |
A |
Time in class is a critical component of the educational process. When students are late to class, they do not just miss the time being late, but also must miss class to be assigned detentions, speak with their assistant principal, etc. Please encourage your student to be on time to all classes every day.
Consequences are assigned as follows:
Tardies 1-3 Verbal Reprimand
Tardies 4-7 Morning Detention (d-hall)
Tardies 8+ Saturday/Thursday Class
Students whose tardiness is deemed excessive and disruptive to the educational process will be considered for I.S.S., suspension, assignment to the discipline program, etc.
Note: Tardies are not done on a per class basis, but are inclusive of all classes and they start over at the semester break. |
