1)  Q How are students being disciplined for being tardy?
A

Tardy Policies-

  • 1st - 3rd = Warning
  • 4th - 6th - Detention
  • 7th Saturday class/ Thursday Class
2)  Q How are we handling headphones, I-pods, etc…?

CD/MP3 players/IPODS/Electronic Entertainment Devices are prohibited on campus.  Violation of this policy will result in confiscation of the item, and it will be taken to the House Principal's office. These items may be held for a period of time. Students who choose to bring these items to school should note that we are not responsible for lost or
stolen equipment.
3)  Q What do we do about students after school?
A
An Announcement will be made at 3pm each day. At that time, ALL students must either exit the building or be with their sponsor, coach or tutoring teacher.
4)  Q Community Flex/Common Area Policy
A
The flex/common area in each community house is an area where students and teachers can maximize learning through collaboration and flexible grouping.  The flex area may also be used for student socialization each morning from 7:00 am-7:24 am except for those mornings that community meetings are being held.  On late arrival Thursdays, students may use the flex/common area for socialization from 9:00 am-9:24 am.
Community members are responsible for following the guidelines and procedures of the flex/common area which include but are not limited to:

Community members will refrain from…

q   having food or drinks in the flex/common area except for water
q   placing stickers or posters on lockers or walls (unless approved by a house principal)
q   leaning back in chairs or sitting on the computer kiosks or tables
q   running or participating in an unsafe activity
q   moving flex/common area furniture into a classroom Community members must…
q   keep the flex/common area clean and pick up all trash
q   follow the Humble ISD Acceptable Use Policy for Technology (computers for educational purposes only-see below)
q   return all furniture to the original flex/common area set-up position

The noise level in the flex/common area must be at a level not to disturb other classrooms.

Students are not to be in the flex area during lunchtime unless it is a teacher-sponsored activity (students must have a pass from the teacher that is sponsoring the activity).
5)  Q What about students using the computers in the flex areas—what are the guidelines for use?
A
All students must follow the Humble Independent School District "Acceptable Use Policy for Technology".   On page 46 of the Student/Parent Handbook 2006-07, it states,

"Use of Internet and other telecommunication activities must be in support of education and research that is consistent with the educational goals, objectives, and policies of the Humble Independent School District.  Students are expected to use moral and ethical guidelines in making appropriate decisions regarding Internet use.  Use of the Internet is not a right, but a privilege, and inappropriate use will result in cancellation of that privilege."

Activities which include but are not limited to the following are not permitted at AHS:
q   transmitting material in violation of any federal, state, local law or school policy
q   using the network for illegal activity
q   playing music CDs or music from another source or website
q   playing video games that are not of an educational nature
q   downloading, printing, or viewing inappropriate or non educational material
q   violating software copyright laws
q   degrading or disrupting equipment or system performance
q   vandalizing the data of another user
q   using an account owned by another user without authorization

All students have received information pertaining to the proper use of the Internet and signed a user agreement.  Violations will be dealt with in accordance with the Humble ISD Student Code of Conduct policy.
6)  Q How are we interpreting and enforcing the dress code policy?
A
The student handbook states that any dress that attracts undue attention, disrupts school, or detracts from the learning process is not acceptable (Student Handbook DM 10).

If a student is wearing clothing that is too loose or too tight and it attracts undue attention, that student would be out of dress code.

Undue attention would be dress that a person observes that causes them to think, "Is that okay"? If you wonder if what a student is wearing is in dress code, it has probably caused undue attention.

Action to be Taken
  1. Consult with the student on his/her dress and what may or may not be appropriate for school.
  2. If you question whether a student should be at school because of what he or she is wearing, please consult a house principal or house counselor.
Please consult the student handbook on dress code matters such as midriffs, miniskirts, length of shorts, tank tops, and spaghetti straps as they are clearly outlined in the student handbook on page DM-10.
7)  Q When can students use the library on Thursday morning?
A
Students may access the library at 9:00, as the librarians are in learning collaboration time from 7:00-9:00.
