SENIORS: For financial aid you need to file the FAFSA. The opening date for completing the FAFSA for the school year 2008-2009, is January 1, 2008. To beginning learning about the FAFSA go to
http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/
and
http://studentaid.ed.gov/ You should never have to pay to have someone help you with your FAFSA.
Some financial aid, scholarship websites that are cool to explore:
http://www.srnexpress.com/
www.collegeboard.com/pay
http://www.fastweb.com/
http://www.petersons.com/
http://www.collegefortexans.com/
http://www.finaid.org/
YOU CAN DO THIS RIGHT NOW to get a jump on your Financial Aid--
Apply for a PIN Number:
http://www.pin.ed.gov/
Both the student and parent will need one. It will take about a week to get them back via email. This serves as an electronic signature for the FAFSA.
Do this now and you will be ready to file first thing after January 1, 2008.
Parents: In a quandary about what to do about getting your child ready for college?
Go to
http://www.collegeboard.com/parents/plan/getting-ready/index.html. This site has a lot of helpful information for parents, like a glossary of college-related terms, action plans for each grade level, college options and how to manage college costs. College Board is also the site where your students would sign up for the SAT exam. Bookmark it for future reference.
Students, I recommend that you set up a free account with College Board. First go to http://www.collegeboard.com/?student and find "My Organizer" and click on "create a free account". Students will be able to register for SAT exams and access their SAT scores online using their username and password. Tip: Start keeping a diary, or notebook with all your usernames, passwords, and other college and career notes that you will need for college admissions.
