Hello all,
I really do want to express my appreciation for what each of you have done to inform our community of the financial issues Humble ISD is facing and the importance of voting this Saturday. Though we do not want to think of it, the face of educating our students in Humble ISD will change dramatically if the election results in a negative outcome.
When Dr. Sconzo talks about Minimum ISD, it definitely impacts the arts education course selection availability afforded to our students. When you paint the picture of providing only that which will provide for students to graduate, a single fine arts credit is all that is required. Any and all scenarios can and unfortunately will be realized if it does not pass.
Research clearly shows the correlation between student achievement and arts education. In fact, it is proven that the more years that students are involved in arts education classes do much better on standardized tests and high stakes accountability measures than those not involved. Many more life-long skills preparing students to be collaborative productive citizens are learned through educating our students in the arts that unfortunately go unmeasured through today's high stakes accountability testing. Unfortunately, research based educational decisions many times must compete with the lack of financial appropriations whether from State or local dollars.
In my 33 years of being a part of this wonderful community, I feel confident that community members will support Humble ISD's ability to continue what I consider to be an exemplary well-rounded arts inclusive education for future generations.
I know with what is at stake for our students, you will make that extra push in getting the word out to vote this Saturday.
