Humble ISD is looking for successful local college students who would like to tutor for the District’s AVID program at a variety of secondary schools during the 2012-13 school year. Applicants must be strong in the areas of math, science and English; Pre-AP and AP course experience is recommended. Education majors are especially desirable and pay begins at $10 per hour.
AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a districtwide approach to college preparation for students who have a willingness to learn and work hard in achieving advanced level coursework. The ultimate goal is for the AVID student to graduate from high school “college-ready” and to attend the four-year college of their choice.
Tutors are essential to the AVID elective class where they facilitate student success in advanced courses, giving them the support and confidence needed for achievement. All tutors receive 16 hours of mandatory formal training in AVID methodologies and good tutoring procedures.
If you are interested in becoming an AVID tutor for the 2012-13 school year, please go to the AVID website at http://www.humbleisd.net/Page/188, go to “tutoring” and download an application where it says “AVID Tutor Application” or contact Susan.Tibbetts@humble.k12.tx.us; be sure to put “AVID Tutor” in the subject area.
